We are excited to announce the addition Dr. Mehul Parekh to the Upstate Sports & Spine team! Here is brief introduction from Dr. Parekh…

Chiropractic care was a huge part of my recovery from years of injuries incurred from sports, biking, and not doing all the things I should have been doing to take care of myself. Chiropractic care allowed me to return to the things I loved doing, and allowed me to do them as well as ever. The holistic, all-encompassing nature of chiropractic care that I received inspired me to attend Life University in 2012.

Upon arriving at Life, I stumbled into this new field that I had never heard of, called Functional Neurology. It appealed to my need to know how chiropractic care worked on an anatomical and neurological level, and it pointed the way to a path of learning that would extend far beyond school. By my 3rd quarter, I had the chance to work directly under Professor Frederick R. Carrick, the founder of Functional Neurology. Over the next three years, I would participate in seven grand rounds held at the Carrick Brain Center, and would take over 300 hours of classes provided by the Carrick Institute for Graduate Studies.

It was incredible to see elite professional athletes, who rely on their brains and bodies working together at optimal levels, choose to work with Professor Carrick! But the inspiration really came from seeing kids with movement disorders, cerebral palsy, concussions, and other traumatic brain injuries attain a level of function they and their families never thought possible.

Life University’s clinic system allowed me the opportunity to, over the course of two years, apply the Functional Neurology teachings to my application of chiropractic care. Some of the patients I worked with suffered from post-stroke complications, short-term memory loss, chronic joint pain, headaches, dizziness, vertigo, fibromyalgia, and cerebral palsy. Beyond that, I also got to assist patients who just wanted to feel better, think more clearly, and operate at their peak performance levels.

After completing an internship with one of Professor Carrick’s top teachers, Dr. Marc Ellis, I returned to Rochester eager to bring my knowledge to an office that was forward-thinking, evidence-driven, and committed to a high level of personalized care. I was lucky to find such a place in Upstate Sports and Spine. Together with Dr. Ryan Uribe and Jenn Craig, we hope to offer solutions to everyone who wants a healthier brain and a better quality of life.

You do not have to suffer from concussion, vertigo, movement disorders, or migraines to benefit from our care! Functional Neurology can help you recover from injuries and get you back on the field faster (as it did for me in late 2013). Our techniques can help you read your favorite books without feeling exhausted. We can help with how efficiently you walk or run, and help minimize the risks of falling and hurting yourself. Everyone can benefit from a healthier brain! Come on in and see how we can help you!
